2010 Civil War Series to host 15 events at six different California tracks
by Bill Sullivan, Handy Racing Promotions, Inc.

ROSEVILLE, CA (1-13-10) - The 2010 season schedule for the Hoosier Racing Tires California Sprint Car Civil War Race Series has been officially slated by the office of Handy Racing Promotions Incorporated. The latest version of California's premier series for 360 cubic inch powered winged sprint cars is sure to produce a stellar chase for the coveted statewide championship title.

This year, the Hoosier Tires sponsored series will compete for more than $240,000 over the year and nearly $25,000 in championship funds, barring any rained out events during the year. Additional contingency awards throughout the year are expected to exceed the $30,000 mark in various products as well. Every regular Civil War Series event will pay $2000 to win and $300 to start the A-feature.

As it has in years past, the Hoosier Racing Tires Civil War Series will begin on Saturday, March 20 at the famed quarter-mile clay bullring track in the foothills, Placerville Speedway. Placerville will host a total of four events in the season to come, returning on May 1, July 31 and the series finale on September 25.

The July 31 Civil War event at Placerville Speedway will be the annual "Family Auto Center Tribute to Al Hinds." This special event sponsored by the local auto dealer pays tribute to the late race promoter that was known for building the relationship between Placerville Speedway and the community shortly after it opened back in 1965.

The event will pay $3000 to win which includes a $1000 bonus from dealership owner Tony Montalbano. During the day of the race a giant sprint car show and free fan bbq will take place at the dealership in Shingle Springs featuring free food for fans, drivers, live music and more.

Petaluma Speedway will be the second track the Civil War Series will visit on the schedule. The famed 3/8 mile tacky track on the Sonoma-Marin County Fairgrounds will host four events during the year. The first will be on Saturday April 10 followed by return Saturday night visits on July 3 and July 24 as well as a special Friday night race on August 6 which will be part of a weekend double header in cooperation with Calistoga Speedway on August 7th.

Placing the two races head to head will allow teams to save on travel costs as both facilities are in close proximity of each other. Petaluma Speedway is located in North Bay while Calistoga Speedway is California's largest dirt track, a flat half mile located in the scenic wine country on the Napa County Fairgrounds.

Chico's Silver Dollar Speedway hosts two Civil War events during the year. The first visit will take place on Sunday, May 30 as part of the annual Silver Dollar Fair. The second visit to Silver Dollar will be the Pacific Sprint Cup Invitational on Wednesday, September 9. The event features the top 32 drivers in the series point standings in the highest paying event of the year that will share the billing with the Hunt Magnetos wingless sprint cars and the midgets of the Bay Cities Racing Association this year.

The tour will travel north to the track that always welcome's the Civil War Winged Warriors with open arms, American Valley Speedway in Quincy on June 19th. This event is sure to include the annual Friday night test and tune and racer bbq for drivers that chose to travel to the scenic facility one day prior to the event.

Ocean Speedway in Watsonville will host a pair of Civil War Series events in the season to come. The first event will be Friday night, July 16 and September 24. Both events will be run in conjunction with the track's weekly Taco Bravo Championship Series to produce a healthy car count and exciting program as the track regular take on the traveling warriors on the coastal range clay.

In 2009, more than 115 different drivers competed in various events in the traveling Civil War Series. The campaign consisted of 14 total events at six different California race tracks. Eight different drivers hoisted feature event trophies during the past season and one driver repeated in the form of a championship in grand fashion.

Sacramento's Sean Becker dominated the victory column to win his second straight Civil War Championship title. After winning five feature events in the 2009 campaign aboard the Scott Miller owned #2sb, Becker claimed the title with an impressive 95 point margin when the season came to a close in September.

The Civil War series is proud to carry numerous contingency sponsors that reach nearly $30,000. Negotiations with the many committed sponsors are currently taking place and will be detailed as the season nears by the media staff of Handy Racing Promotions.

Those who are interested in becoming a contingency sponsor for the 2010 Civil War Series can contact the track office at (916) 969-7484 or can contact Bill Sullivan, Communications Director for Handy Racing at [email protected]. Your inquiry will be addressed by the appropriate representatives promptly.
